That is what Sam commented to Frodo when he realised that their star-glass was filled with the light of earendil, who bore a silmaril in his brow, stolen from Angband by Beren and Luthien. Has anyone noticed that this star-glass helps to kill Shelob- child of Ungoliant who helped to steal the Silmarils in the first place!
